EMD E-8 Diesel Locomotive
The Electro-Motive Division of General Motors produced the E-8 locomotive in the 1950s for use on passenger trains. The E-8 and the nearly identical E-9 proved to be extremely popular on American railways. Some found their way into freight services in the late 1960s, and eventually regional commuter services well into the 1980s and 1990s. Today, most remaining E-8s and E-9s can be found in railway museums, however a few have found refuge on tourist railways, excursion services, and even as executive locomotives for large railways.
